Recently, well-known leaker GTA 6 Countdown posted on social media that GTA 6 is the most leaked video game in history, and compiled a list of several core leaks of the game since 2016.
In May 2016, a user named “4chan” first leaked that the game would feature a male and female protagonist pairing and a Florida setting; in March 2018, the media outlet Inside Gaming revealed details of the game’s background and the female protagonist; in June 2021, Tom Henderson revealed that the game was set in a modern era, overturning the initial rumors of a 1980s setting.
2022 saw a surge in leaks: In July, Jason Schreier revealed that Rockstar had scaled down Project Americas, focusing on Miami and the Bonnie/Clyde storyline; in September, hacker TeaPot (real name Arion Kurtaj) leaked 90 pre-release clips and source code, causing a stir in the industry. The hacker was later detained, and in March 2026, he revealed from prison that the source code had been publicly released but not leaked.
The leaks continued to escalate in 2023: In October, a Reddit user leaked plot and prologue details; in November, Jason Schreier prematurely leaked the trailer release schedule; in December, a video showcasing the game’s city and the full trailer were leaked on the Xbox platform, disrupting the official release schedule.
Subsequent leaks focused on development progress and core information: In March 2024, Kotaku reported that the game might be delayed until 2026; in May, LegacyKila leaked information about the protagonist’s voice actors; in April 2025, the protagonist’s full name was leaked ahead of schedule; in November, the game’s release was confirmed to be delayed to November 19th, with Tom Henderson stating that the content was ready.
In April 2026, the hacker group ShinyHunters infiltrated Rockstar to obtain company data, threatening to leak it as a ransom payment by April 14th. Rockstar responded that the leaked content was not substantial and would not affect operations or players.
The game is currently scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, and development has entered the final polishing stage.
