April 13 – According to a BBC report today, Rockstar was hacked again last Saturday, marking the company’s second cyberattack in three years.

The attack was reportedly launched by the cybercrime group ShinyHunters, who claimed to have compromised Rockstar’s servers through a third-party cloud service provider. They threatened to release the stolen data online if a ransom was not paid by April 14th.
A Rockstar spokesperson subsequently confirmed the incident, stating, “We can confirm that a small amount of non-critical company information was accessed in a third-party data breach.”
The BBC then contacted ShinyHunters. The hackers stated that because Rockstar did not meet their demands, they would publicly release the stolen data.
ShinyHunters is an active cybercrime group, largely composed of teenagers, specializing in data theft and extortion. They have previously been involved in large-scale data breaches involving Microsoft, AT&T, and Ticketmaster.
Global law enforcement agencies generally advise companies not to pay ransoms to criminals, as this encourages the development of the black market and does not guarantee the complete deletion of stolen data.
