Manchester United will Facing the Challenge against Leeds United in their only Premier League match on Monday. Caretaker manager Michael Carrick, who has yet to secure a long-term contract, is already planning for next season’s squad. Since taking over as caretaker manager, Carrick has won 7 of his 10 matches, with a particularly strong performance in the Premier League. While they haven’t yet challenged for the league title, their third-place position is very advantageous, significantly increasing Carrick’s chances of securing a long-term contract. However, with the contract still pending, it’s impossible to predict the future. For the former Red Devils midfield maestro, Carrick doesn’t seem to be thinking too much about it, and is even preparing for the team’s future formation.
Central defender Harry McGia recently signed a one-year contract extension, meaning the long-time defensive stalwart will remain in Manchester United’s squad next season. Carrick’s role in facilitating this contract signing is also noteworthy; he’s essentially making the decision for the club regarding who to keep. Carwick’s next step should be to elevate Minnay’s status. Since taking charge under Carwick, the young Englishman has demonstrated his importance in midfield. Retaining Minnay would likely be another step in Carwick’s rebuilding plan for the Red Devils, given the uncertain future.
With the top five in the Premier League essentially already qualified for next season’s Champions League, and Aston Villa and Chelsea both dropping points in this round, if Carwick continues to work his “magic” in the remaining seven league matches, the Red Devils could return to the biggest stage of European club football after a long absence.
