Google brings the Gemini app to Macs, continuing to develop a powerful desktop assistant.

Google has made the Gemini app available for free download to all Mac users worldwide using macOS 15 and later.
Google officially released the macOS version of Gemini on the 15th, providing a native desktop experience that eliminates the need to open a web version through a browser, allowing it to seamlessly integrate with your workflow.
Ask a question in the “Ask Gemini” section, enter a prompt, and use the plus sign (+) on the left to upload files from your computer and integrate with Google Drive/Google Photos/NotbookLM. The right side offers “Shortcut,” “Thinking,” and “Pro” modes. Additionally, you can quickly launch Gemini using the keyboard shortcut Option + Space.
Through the “Share Window” feature (requires system permissions), you can share content from your screen, including files from your computer, with Gemini to provide assistance with what you are viewing. For example, when studying a complex chart, you can share a window of the chart with Gemini and ask, “What are the three key points of this chart?” Gemini will then summarize the information.
You can also quickly generate images using Nano Banana or create videos using Veo, turning your ideas into reality.
To get started, you can download the macOS version of Gemini directly from gemini.google/mac, install it, and log in with your Google account to use it, syncing with the Gemini app and web version.

Compared to competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity, which already have macOS versions, Google is a step behind. However, Google states that launching this application brings its AI assistant to where individuals are engaged in their work, and this is just the beginning. Google is committed to creating a truly personalized, proactive, and powerful desktop assistant and will share more information in the coming months.
Google has already closely integrated its Gemini model with Apple’s AI product roadmap, and now, with the macOS version of Gemini, Google is taking another step forward within the Apple ecosystem.
