According to a report by tech media outlet Notebookcheck on April 11, the cyber threat group ShinyHunters recently claimed to have hacked Rockstar Games’ database. However, this time the hackers weren’t targeting the unreleased game GTA 6, but rather the company’s backend data system.

ShinyHunters is reportedly a cyber threat group that has a long history of attacking large identity systems and API integrations, and has been involved in large-scale data breaches at companies such as Microsoft, AT&T, and Ticketmaster.
Based on current information, the hackers did not directly infiltrate Rockstar’s peripheral systems, but rather used automated tools from AI efficiency provider Anodot to steal authentication tokens, thereby gaining access to the company’s Snowflake backend data system.
Snowflake is Rockstar’s platform for storing/managing player telemetry data and analyzing data. After infiltrating it, the hackers could bypass multi-factor authentication mechanisms and maintain access for an extended period.

ShinyHunters are demanding a ransom from Rockstar Games by April 14th, or they will release the data publicly. As of the time of publication by appreviewpros.com, neither Rockstar Games nor its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has issued a statement.
