appreviewpros.com NEWS, April 10 – The Hollywood Reporter published a blog post yesterday (April 9) reporting that Sony Pictures has launched the “Metal Gear Solid” film project, with the directing duo of “Final Destination” Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein taking the helm.

Reports indicate that with the commercial and critical success of Final Destination: Bloodstained, directorial duo Zak Libowski and Adam B. Stein have made a remarkable transition from independent horror film directors to mainstream Hollywood producers. The film grossed $317 million worldwide (approximately 2.17 billion RMB at the current exchange rate), setting a new record for the series.
Sony Pictures subsequently signed a priority collaboration agreement with the duo, covering all of its labels, establishing a deep partnership. According to the agreement, the two will establish a new production company, Wonderlab, focusing on creating commercially viable character-driven genre films.
Core projects include directing the Metal Gear film adaptation for Sony Pictures Animation, a stealth combat game created by Hideo Kojima with science fiction and spy elements, with Avi Arad and his son serving as producers. This will be the game’s first big-screen adaptation.
The duo’s project portfolio extends far beyond this. They are currently directing the Venom animated film for Sony Pictures Animation and developing the original science fiction epic Earthlings. In addition, the two have also participated in several high-profile projects, including Warner Bros.’ Gremlins, Amblin Entertainment’s Long Lost, and Paramount’s The Traveler.
Specific details of the film are currently under wraps, but promotional images released by Columbia Pictures suggest the plot may revolve around the original Metal Gear game. In a statement, the directing duo praised the original work as a “groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that completely changed the gaming industry” and expressed their honor in bringing Hideo Kojima’s classic characters and world to the big screen.
This project is not the first attempt to adapt the IP into a film. Years ago, Oscar Isaac was confirmed to play the protagonist “Solid Serpent,” but the project ultimately failed to materialize. Industry analysts believe that the launch of this new project signifies Sony’s attempt to revive this long-shelved adaptation plan.
