On April 19, The Hill reported that Nicholas Moore, who pleaded guilty to dozens of unauthorized accesses to the U.S. Supreme Court’s electronic filing system over several months, was sentenced to one year of probation on Friday.

Moore also hacked into the networks of the Volunteer Service (a government agency that provides stipends to veterans) and the Department of Veterans Affairs, which provides healthcare and benefits to veterans.
He boasted about his actions on an Instagram account called @ihackedthegovernment and posted information about his victims on the account. Moore used the account credentials of one of his victims to hack into the U.S. Supreme Court’s electronic filing system, the Volunteer Service, and the Department of Veterans Affairs systems.
He initially faced a year in prison and $100,000 in damages, but prosecutors subsequently requested only probation.
At his sentencing hearing on Friday, Moore stated, “I made a mistake, and I sincerely regret it. I respect the law and want to be a law-abiding citizen.”
